Coventry University Business School (CUBS) are a leading provider of postgraduate taught and research degrees in Sport Management. The highlights of taught courses (MA, MSc. and MBA) include industry visits, networking opportunities, internship programme, contemporary academic content and an international student demand for their courses.
Research students wanting a Master’s by Research or MPhil/PhD can look forward to a team of experienced academic supervisors and supportive research structure to guide their progress.
The internship programme has been a huge success with interns going to governing bodies such as the FA (Football Association), UEFA (Union of European Football Associations), Badminton England as well as commercial firms such as Octagon, Goodform and many smaller companies looking for advice on international expansion, improving revenues and marketing/sponsorship schemes.
There have also been a number of interns going to Arenas such as the Ricoh and working with the Coventry Blaze (Professional Ice Hockey and UK Champions)on marketing and finance issues. The programme is flexible and new internship opportunities arise every year.
For over 7 years CUBS have offered and continually improved their postgraduate sport management provision. In the past few years students have enjoyed visits to Premiership football clubs, Wembley Stadium, and last year a week long field trip to Barcelona, Spain. These trips allow students to see facility and event management issues first hand and add valuable experience to their CV’s.
Guest lecturers feature prominently in our programmes and include industry professionals from sport media, sport law, sponsorship/marketing – from France, USA, and UK for example. These are invaluable in providing students with an international perspective on the management of sport and add to their network of contacts! This is only surpassed by our student body on sport management courses who come from all over the world – Asia, USA, Canada, Europe, Switzerland… and with over 7 years of alumni, the network also includes those who are making use of their degree in the industry.
We host international sport conferences such as Play the Game, have a team of active researchers and work with the Centre for the International Business of Sport (CIBS). For more information on CIBS students can visit their website on www.coventry.ac.uk/cibs and see the free workshops, podcasts and information available to them. Each year we look for new and exciting opportunities to compliment our programmes. For 2010 we are planning a week long introduction to winter sports in Austria. However, we discuss with each new cohort of students their career goals and aspirations to provide specific guidance to help them meet their needs – students have finished the programme and gone to work as sport agents, event organisers, governing body representatives, sponsorship, sport marketers, facility managers and professional coaches.
